Video Transcript for Review of Flint Hill Goods Trailer Wiring - Hex Self Tapping Screw - FA1131822

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today I'm gonna take a look at this 1/4 inch by 14 by 3/4 inch long unslotted hex drive zinc finish self-drilling screw. This is for a quantity of one. Now if you notice, this is an unslotted hex washer head self-drilling screw, has a zinc coating for corrosion resistance, and this is great for use on grounding wires with a 1/4 inch diameter ring terminal. As we mentioned, the size on this is 1/4 inch by 14 by 3/4 inch long threads.

The overall length of this is 3/4 of an inch. The hex head size on this is 3/8 of an inch, and it is a steel construction with zinc-plated finish, and it is case hardened. But that should do it for the review on this 1/4 inch by 14 by 3/4 inch long unslotted hex drive zinc finish self-drilling screw.

Excellent product and fast service. Definitely will buy from them again for all my trailer needs.

by:

Worked well on my boat trailer for mounting lights on metal frame. If you have never used self tapping metal screws the secret to making the process quick and easy is to drill a pilot hole just slightly smaller in diameter than the screw threads. If your drill bits are not the sharpest in the world another tip is to start with a smaller bit and then use successive larger bits until the hole is slightly smaller than the screw.

After one year of exposure to the elements an being in and out of water at boat ramps, and traveling some fairly rough roads to reach boat ramps, these fasteners are still securely in place.

Exactly what I needed to rewire a 20-year-old trailer that was starting to show it's age with inconsistent lighting performance and continuity issues. In addition to purchasing this lighting harness, I upgraded all my incandescent bulb side markers and taillights with LED units and complete rewired the trailer. etrailer had everything I needed in one place with excellent pricing and superb service. Everything is working great and I love the brightness and visibility of the LED lights.

by:

Did the job of installing new jacks.

by:

Good for what it is, but note that these are too short to go through, say, tie-down racks then plywood sidewalls, and into the metal framing of a utility trailer. The picture does not really show the relative length of the threaded part and the drilling part for this length screw.

by:

I am very happy with the quality of the products and the service! Most of all I want to compliment you on the instructional videos included in your websit. They are simple to follow, informative and answered several questions I had about the products and the installation. I will definitely be back when needed and highly recommend etrailer.com!!

by:

Worked as expected. Good solid quality. I did drill a small pilot hole in my trailer first to assist the speed of installation.

by:

Used 8 of these screws to attach two scissor jacks onto my pop-up frame. These worked just as expected

by:

I was worried that the screws might of been lost as the box the order came in was really beat up. But nope they were there.

  • LED Light Kit Availability for a Hollywood Racks Electronic Bike Rack
We don't have anything custom fit to allow you to install lights on your Hollywood Racks SE E-Bike Rack part # HLY84FR the part # 98174LED is an LED light kit for cargo carriers that would be the best starting point we could offer. You could use the brackets # BK70BB to secure the assemblies to the rack with self tapping screws like part # FA1131822.

  • How To Properly Ground The Wires On Electric Drum Brakes
Typically the ground wire would be connected to the frame of the trailer using ground screws like # FA1131822 and a ring terminal like part # DW05740-1. Using heat shrink is always recommended to help prevent corrosion. Connecting the ground to the axle technically would work, but the frame will be a much more secure location. You should be able to find a good clean spot on the frame and keep the grounds protected and out of the elements as much as possible.

  • How to Ground a Trailer Light
I was not able to reference the tow smart light kits you are referring to but a trailer taillight will ground one of two ways. They can either ground using a single wire (usually white) or through the mounting hardware. If they ground using a single wire then that wire will need to be attached to a bare metal part of the trailer frame with a screw like part # FA1131822 and a ring terminal like part # DW05737-1. If there is any paint on the ground location then you will need to sand it down...

  • Does the Kodiak Hydraulic Brake Line Kit Come with Hardware
The Kodiak Hydraulic Brake Line Kit part # 18SI-BLKIT doesn't come with hardware for the liner holders. The reason for this is that the exact hardware you need will vary by application and preference. In most cases, self-tapping screws will be best but other times you may want to drill and bolt the line in place. If you want to pick up some self-tapping screws with the line kit I recommend the Self-Tapping Screw part # FA1131822.

This will allow you to have 4-way connectors on both the vehicle and the trailer. The 4-way connectors are much more common than 5-way connectors, and will allow to you tow other things with your vehicle, or tow your trailer with other vehicles, without the need for an adapter. You could use some self-tapping screws like # FA1131822 to avoid drilling holes first. If you know about where the wiring is you could position the bumper # D3-96 so as to avoid the wiring. Or another option would be to drill from the backside, if possible, so you can avoid the wiring for sure. Or another option would be some type of anchor bolt or screw but that would still require drilling.

  • What to Do w/ the Black and Red Wire When Wiring a 7-Way Connector
The black wire is usually the 12v power wire that typically goes in the 11 o'clock position on the trailer side 7-way connector as you are looking directly at the front of it. It'll keep your battery charged, run an electric jack, or something along those lines. Not the end of the world if you don't have anything to run it to. Now the red wire is going to do something with your left side trailer lights if you are wiring your 7-way in a standard configuration so it's pretty important. I...

  • Self Tapping Screw Recommendation for Installing Exterior Light on Trailer
Self tapping screws like the part # WLS100 which has a Torx head or a part # FA1131822 which is a hex head style bolt would work well. We don't normally see people seal the lights to the trailer as most light assemblies are a weather proof or waterproof design and don't require it. For a sealant we recommend the # 0160297 for sealing trailer roof vents. This would work well for a light assembly as well.

  • How Do I Ground The White Wire When Assembling A Malone Kayak Trailer
It is odd that the Malone instructions for the trailer # MPG464-LB do not mention connecting the ground anywhere. On a trailer like this, the white wire can be grounded on the steel frame (usually near the tongue) using a self tapping screw # FA1131822 and a ring terminal # DW05737-1. Preferably an out of the way location where it is out of the elements. Make sure it is grounded to good clean metal, free of any corrosion. A bad ground would certainly explain the issue with your lights.
